About the TIEC Footing

The footing in all competition arenas at Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort (TIEC) is specially engineered to be an all-weather surface for equestrian sports, providing shock absorption, stability and traction for athletes moving across the surface, and superior drainage so that competition can continue even in rainy weather.

This scientific composition makes TIEC arenas, filled with a specialized sand and fiber mixture, great for both horses and humans alike! The surface is designed not to kick up in the horse or rider’s face, is a forgiving surface in impact situations and provides an elevated player experience for traditional sand sports.

Our arena crews are able to maintain the footing to many parameters as needed, so the surface can be customized to each activity.

Tryon Stadium: Ultra-Competition Arena

TIEC is also proud to offer a state-of-the-art Ultra-Competition Arena in our Tryon Stadium. This highly-engineered footing achieves Ultra-Competition level standards and is intended for the very top level of International competition. Ultra-Competition arenas are an example of the most extremely fine-tuned riding surfaces.

The speeds and heights of CSI 5* competitions in general make for a narrow aperture of what is acceptable, even in the best of conditions. CSI 5* Competitions may be held in the rain, yet still demand 5* levels of performance.
