Hunt Tosh and Sandman Named Absorbine® Green Hunter 3’ Division Champions

Mill Spring, NC – June 27, 2019 – Samuel Parot (CHI) continued his winning streak at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC), topping Thursday’s $36,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 2* aboard Atlantis to win on a jump-off time of 39.182 seconds. Pablo Barrios (VEN) and Clotilde Lewis’ Donna VI, a 2011 Holsteiner Mare (Cassal x Unknown), took second place after stopping the clock at 39.366 seconds. Santiago Lambre (MEX) rounded out the top three by piloting Cetano Van Aspergem Z, a 2009 Zangersheide gelding (Clinton x Ahorn Z) owned by Tal Milstein Stables, to a time of 39.424 seconds.

Parot commented on the course which was set by Guilherme Jorge (BRA), who was a show jumping designers for the Rio Olympic Games and will also be designing courses at the 2019 Pan American Games: “The course designer is the best in the world. There were 50 horses in the class and all the riders are super,” said Parot. “The class was not an easy win, but today I got lucky. All the distances came up perfectly for [fences] one, two, and three, but you had to be careful at the last one,” explained Parot.

Parot piloted three horses in the class, with two advancing to the jump-off round. “With Atlantis, I entered to win. The second one [Thriller P], I just wanted to be clear and fast.” Atlantis is Parot’s own 2003 Zangersheide gelding (Andiamo x Royal Bravour L). Thursday’s win followed a first-place finish in the $25,000 Main Street Insurance Grand Prix at TIEC during Tryon Summer 2 competition, resulting in back-to-back wins in Tryon Stadium.

Parot expressed that he plans to return to the Tryon Stadium on Saturday with Atlantis and Thriller P for the $72,000 Ingles Grand Prix CSI 2* under the lights, while Quick Du Pottier will compete in the $36,000 Sunday Classic in hopes of continuing his current success:

“It feels good [to win again here]. I tell you, I love this show. For me it’s fantastic. The horse show is good,” concluded Parot.

Wednesday of Tryon Summer 3 competition saw Aaron Vale (USA) and Troy Glaus’ Eye Catcher, a 2009 Dutch Sport Horse Gelding (Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve x Narcos II SF), take the win in the $5,000 Power & Speed Stake CSI 2* fault-free and with a speed phase time of 22.768 seconds. Second place was awarded to Steve Schaefer (USA) and the Wyndmont Inc owned 2002 Dutch Sport Horse gelding (Nijinski x Julius), Valinski S, with a speed phase time of 22.861 seconds. It was then Pablo Barrios (VEN) aboard Le Vio, a 2009 Hanoverian gelding (Van Gogh x Drosselklang II) owned by Gut Einhaus LLC, who claimed third place honors with a speed phase time of 23.307 seconds.

Hunt Tosh (Milton, Georgia) and the Douglas Wheeler-owned Sandman topped the Absorbine® Green Hunter 3’ Division to be crowned champion on Thursday of the Tryon Summer Series 3 at TIEC. Donald Sheehan (Maryville, TN) and the Kashmere Farms entry, Indian Ocean, earned reserve champion honors of the division.
While Tosh himself is not a newcomer to showing at Tryon, he shared that this was in fact Sandman’s first time competing at the facility: “He’s new; we just did the 3’ Greens for the first time last week in Aiken. We’ve shown him a couple times in the Baby Greens. He’s quite a nice horse. He’s been a lot of quality for us and he’s very good. We brought him to Tryon this week. It’s his first time here and he was champion!”
Following his performance in the Green Hunters, Sandman will get to relax for the rest of the week while Tosh continues to work: “That’s it for [Sandman] this week; he’s finished. We have a couple junior hunters, ponies and amateurs showing, and we hope to keep up the good luck!
“We love Tryon,” Tosh shared. “They do a great job here: the facility is amazing, the stabling is nice, the footing is great, and there are great restaurants. My daughter loves being here, and it’s a fun environment. We love being here.”
