Indoor Schooling Days Weekends Announced for February 24-March 12

For Immediate Release

Mill Spring, NC – February 8, 2022 – The Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort (TIEC) Winter Indoor Series offers unrated Hunter/Jumper competition and schooling for educational and weather-friendly opportunities for horses and riders alike in the Indoor Complex at TIEC. This relaxed environment, limited to a maximum of 180 horses per week, allows for small classes and a positive training experience for young horses, riders competing at a new level for 2022, and more.

Tryon Winter Indoor 3 competition, hosted February 3-6, featured four days of competition with a highlight $1,500 2’9” Hunter Derby, which was championed by Amelia Turner (Greenville, SC) aboard her own Fantastic after they collected 160 points after two rounds. Gisele Beardsley (Tryon, NC) O’Grady piloted Virginia Barnette’s Januar to reserve, scoring 159 points in total, while Ashley Conkle (Wellford, SC) and Return to Me collected third place honors for Issabella Malherbe on a two-round total of 157 points.

Turner and the twelve year-old gelding have been partnered together for two years. “He’s taken me from the 2’6 to the 3’3 and has taught me so much,” she said. The duo competed across all disciplines throughout the weekend, shining in the Derby.

“The first round of the derby rode smoothly,” she reported. “The course had a perfect level of difficulty that tested both the rider and horse, but was not too hard.”

“The first thing that stood out to me from the handy round was the turn from jump five to the trot jump,” Turner reflected. “I knew that my horse would turn well and used it to my advantage to take the inside turn. It played out well and helped me set up my horse for the trot jump.”

“The show was well organized and it was a great first experience in the indoor arena,” Turner concluded about her show experience. “My favorite thing about Tryon is having an online schedule that is regularly updated. It helps a lot with planning!”
