Governor Pat McCrory and First Lady Ann McCrory to Make Special Appearance at Tryon International Equestrian Center’s Grand Opening Ceremonies on June 6
Mill Spring, NC – June 5, 2015 – Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) is proud to announce the inaugural presentation of the Governor’s Cup award following the $210,000 Tryon Grand Prix CSI 4* on Saturday, June 6. The impressive Governor’s Cup will be presented to the winner of the Grand Prix during the awards ceremony at the conclusion of the competition. The Grand Opening ceremony will begin at 6:30pm with a performance by Grammy-winning artist Lee Greenwood singing his hit single “God Bless The U.S.A.” during a 4-person tandem jump by the Special Forces Parachute Team, who will be descending with a 20-foot by 40-foot American flag into the George H. Morris Stadium. Gates will open to the public at 4:30pm.
North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, accompanied by First Lady Ann McCrory, will make an appearance at Tryon International Equestrian Center, introducing the Grand Opening Ceremony, as well as representing the state of North Carolina on a press conference panel before the start of competition.
Governor McCrory will help to draw four charities, at random, to participate in the Great Charity Challenge of the Carolinas (GCC) to be held at TIEC in October. The GCC pairs 24 randomly selected charities with equestrian teams and sponsors who then compete for a portion of the $250,000 total prize, which will then be donated back to their charity. Each participating charity will receive a minimum of $5,000 through the GCC competition.Competition at TIEC continues tomorrow, June 6, with the highlight $210,000 Tryon Grand Prix CSI 4* for the Governor’s Cup which will begin at 7pm in the George H. Morris Stadium.
The night will provide an array of entertainment for guests including a highly anticipated performance by Grammy-award winning Lee Greenwood singing “God Bless The U.S.A”. The Special Forces Parachute team will also be doing a four-person tandem jump with a 20-foot by 40-foot American flag. A live showing of the 147th running of the Belmont Stakes will take place on the jumbotron in the main arena at the 6:50pm post time.
