Cinco de Mayo Party & Derby-Themed “Saturday Night Lights” May 5-6 at Tryon Resort

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo followed by Tryon Resort’s signature event series offering free, family activities, live streaming of the Kentucky Derby, and grand prix show jumping competition. Spring Season “Saturday Night Lights” continue every Saturday through June 10, 2017.

Mill Spring, N.C. – April 28, 2017 – Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) at Tryon Resort is kicking off its 2017 “Saturday Night Lights” event series with derby-themed fun on Saturday, May 6, 2017. A festive Cinco de Mayo celebration will start the weekend on Friday, May 5. Both events start at 6 p.m. and are open to the public. Weekend lodging is available for the ultimate equestrian lifestyle getaway.

Cinco de Mayo: Friday, May 5, 2017
Start the celebration early on Friday, May 5 with a Cinco de Mayo party at Tryon Resort. The party begins in Legends Club from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Mexican buffet and nacho bar for $19.95 per person, cash bar featuring margaritas and Mexican beers, live Mariachi music and authentic ballet Folklórico Dancers. Then, head over to the Silo Bar at Tryon Resort for the after party featuring festive drink specials, games, and more live Mariachi music. Siesta Cantina will also be open for food service.

“Saturday Night Lights” Derby Party: May 6, 2017
Come decked out in derby day attire and a festive hat and indulge in free, family entertainment and world-class equestrian competition. Treat the kids to free carousel rides, face painting, pony rides, live music and a variety of street performers. At 6:34 p.m. grab a seat in the George Morris Arena to watch the live streaming of the Kentucky Derby followed by a “Derby Hat Contest” under the announcer’s tower, and culminating with the $86,000 Tryon Resort Grand Prix CSI2* show jumping competition.

The “Derby Hat Contest” is free to enter and prizes will be given to most beautiful, most creative, and most outrageous hat in both adult and child categories. To enter, meet at the announcer tower on Tryon Resort’s Vendor Row next to the George Morris Arena. The contest will start promptly at 6pm.

Several onsite restaurants are available for diverse dining experiences. Choose from Roger’s Diner, Blue Ginger Sushi, Legends Grille, or Campagna. Or, dine ringside on the Legends Club patio while watching the world-class showjumping competition. For a quick bite, purchase a sandwich, salad or wrap from Pony Express Deli located in The General Store, or a snack from one of several concessions stands selling lemonade, ice cream, hot dogs, cotton candy and more.

For families, especially ones with horse enthusiasts of any age, “Saturday Night Lights” is an affordable way to entertain the whole family thanks to the free resort admission, free parking and a variety of free kids’ activities. Parking is plentiful and resort access is conveniently located at 25 International Boulevard in Mill Spring, N.C., off Highway 74.

For nightlife, Tryon Resort offers two bars including Clear Rounds Pub, located ringside along the George Morris Arena, and the Silo Bar with rustic, outdoor seating including a row of comfortable hammocks.

“Saturday Night Lights” complements every Grand Prix showjumping competition at TIEC and are scheduled as follows: May 6, 13, 20, 27 and June 3 and 10, 2017.
